RAINBOW’S AND GO-GO BOOTS
DAVE THE POET

Seventeen, In nineteen sixty-two
Three generations of warriors
I would be one too
Off to Vietnam
Stop communism
Kill Asian troops
Save the world
With napalm and bombs
Government issued
Brainwashed recruits
Fighting
For rainbows, And Go-Go boots

Rich man’s kids
Are raised to steal
While the poor
Remain uneducated
Thanks, To the New Deal

A cross in Arlington
A neatly folded flag
Die for the lies
Dog tags and body bags
Assassinate Kennedy
The cowboy
Sends more troops
A military waltz
For rainbows, And Go-Go boots

Vacationing in the abyss
Open your eyes
The poor will be, Power’s sacrifice
Souls and lives
Traded
So the Carlyle Group’s
Stock can rise
Be armed and fight
With the weapon of truth
Bark, Branch or Root
Respect and Salute
Peace, Love, Rainbows, And Go-Go boots
